Florianópolis's Centro occupies the island side of the bay, the historic and commercial heart of the city: the vibrant Mercado Público with its seafood bars, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Praça XV pedestrian core, and the approach to the Ponte Hercílio Luz, the suspension bridge that is the symbol of the city. It is dense, walkable and busy by day, with the bridges to the mainland and the central bus terminal at hand.
